Pawnee Nation

Pawnee Nation’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Department.DELIVERABLES: Name, Logo, Brand Identity, Video, Nimlock, Brochure, Posters, Photography, Signage, Letterhead, Envelope, Business Cards

SYNOPSIS: Client wanted a name that would reflect the goals of the program which is to protect and serve women and children caught in domestic and sexually violent situations. Buffalo Nickel conducted several interviews with community members and in doing so landed on the Pawnee word Tihirasa, which roughly means “that one in the front of the line that leads us, protects us.” The client also requested a purple background because the color is nationally known to be associated with domestic violence awareness month. Within the logo you have a Native person out stretching their arms to encapsulate a heart. On the interior of that heart is a yellow Pawnee earthlodge, a traditional Pawnee Dwelling. The head of this person creates the door for the earthlodge. The design is topped off with a four sided “Pawnee Star” which was an integral portion to the video narrative that Tihirasa wanted to convey. Further interviews were done with community members to learn all about the Pawnee creation story. Within that story there is a character named “First Woman.” The video that was a created shows “First Woman” doing a “giveaway” in the traditional Pawnee style. The video was written, directed, and produced all by Buffalo Nickel.
